Unleashing the immune system against medulloblastoma
Project title: Targeting blood-tumour barrier to activate the immune microenvironment of paediatric brain tumours
The Huang Lab is aiming to harness patients’ immune systems to fight brain tumours. Medulloblastoma is one of the most common childhood brain cancers. Immunotherapy is a promising potential treatment strategy where a patient’s own immune system is used to fight cancer, but Medulloblastoma is protected from most immune cells by the fortified walls of the brain’s blood vessels, the Blood-Brain-Barrier. Dr. Huang’s team aims to find a way to break down this barrier around the Medulloblastoma tumour and discover what types of immune cells come in to fight it.
