Sherry
During a routine check-up with her doctor, 19-year-old Sherry Holmes mentioned that she had been experiencing frequent headaches and migraines. Her doctor ordered an MRI scan, which revealed a large brain tumour with a cyst on top. Though non-cancerous, the size and location of the tumour presented an immediate risk, so Sherry was urgently scheduled for operation.
Just weeks earlier, Sherry had felt perfectly healthy, making the diagnosis a shock. The reality set in as she watched her hair fall to the floor when her head was shaved for surgery.
Fortunately, the operation was successful. Now a mother of two, Sherry has recovered fully, but the experience left a lasting impact on her life.
After learning about Meagan Bebenek Foundation through a family friend, Sherry became an ambassador for the organization. Touring the Brain Tumour Research Centre in Toronto, where MBF has directed millions towards research, Sherry was moved by the advancements in treatment, saying it was “hard to put into words.”
Beyond her work with MBF, Sherry has had the opportunity to work on homes for those in need, including a fellow brain tumour survivor, through her involvement in her family’s television series.
