Daniel fought cancer twice — first retinoblastoma as an infant, and later pineoblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer. Despite enduring surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and unimaginable pain, he remained loving, brave, funny, and full of light. He passed away on August 24, 2021, at only five years old.
Lukas and Daniel were just one year apart and inseparable. Losing his little brother was a tremendous loss for six-year-old Lukas, but the love and bond he shared with Daniel stayed with him, inspiring a determination to help other children facing brain cancer.

Over the past year, Lukas has proudly taken on the role of an MBF Ambassador, raising awareness and funds through multiple initiatives. In less than a year, he has raised nearly $4,000 in honour of his brother — turning grief into action, and loss into hope.
Lukas continues to inspire his communities with his courage, heart, and unwavering dedication. What began as a way to keep Daniel’s memory alive has grown into a movement of hope, compassion, and community engagement.
His most recent initiative involved creating holiday decorations from pinecones Daniel had lovingly collected. Treasured for their connection to Daniel, these pinecones were transformed by Lukas into Angel Pinecone ornaments and Nativity scenes — each crafted with care, with all proceeds donated to MBF.
Through this project, Daniel’s spirit lives on, bringing hope to children and families facing paediatric brain cancer.
