We are proud to celebrate an important milestone in paediatric brain tumour research and extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Liana Nobre and the exceptional team at the Brain Tumour Research Centre (BTRC) at SickKids on the publication of their latest study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
This achievement is especially meaningful to us because Dr. Nobre is a former Meagan Bebenek Foundation Neuro-oncology Fellow. Her continued leadership and dedication to advancing care for children with brain tumours exemplify the impact that investment in research and people can have on the future of paediatric oncology.

The team's groundbreaking study demonstrates how tumour-derived DNA found in cerebrospinal fluid can be used as a minimally invasive liquid biopsy for children with brain tumours. This innovative approach has the potential to transform patient care by helping physicians diagnose tumours more accurately, monitor treatment response, detect relapse earlier, and make more personalized treatment decisions—all while reducing the need for invasive surgical biopsies.
This is exactly the kind of innovation that changes lives for children and families.
MBF has long been committed to supporting the remarkable researchers at the BTRC who are pushing the boundaries of paediatric brain tumour research. Twenty-five years ago, the Centre was home to just four researchers. Today, it has grown into a world-leading research hub with more than 120 scientists and clinicians dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families facing brain tumours.
Meagan Bebenek Foundation Neuro-oncology Fellowship Program was established with a clear purpose: to help develop the next generation of leaders in paediatric brain tumour research. Seeing former fellows like Dr. Nobre leading internationally recognized research programs is a powerful reminder that investing in talent and innovation leads to discoveries that can transform lives.
We extend our sincere congratulations to Dr. Nobre and the entire research team on this outstanding achievement. We also thank our donors, partners, and supporters whose generosity makes progress like this possible. Together, we are helping accelerate discoveries that bring hope to children and families affected by brain tumours.
Hope Changes Everything.
